Chapter 1: Descent of the Gods

Today was her thirtieth day. Her behaviour was very calm, very composed. There wasn’t any anxiousness or uneasiness due to the unfamiliarity and strangeness of the surroundings anymore. She was an intern, but due to the arrangements of the director she was more like a paid jack of all trades.

The place where she was currently working was called the City Center Hospital. It was the city’s premier hospital with multiple departments and numerous employees. The hospital was located at the eastern end of a bustling commercial street in the center of the city. From her impression on the first day alone, there seemed to be about 600 employees in here.

The work of an intern was very simple, but interns were still destined to be the newest people on a department. Some jobs that were loathed by other senior workers were handed to her. Fortunately, she was mentally prepared. She has set a high goal for herself, and perhaps you can say her ambition was very great.

Xiao Yuxin, 21 years old, came from a family of Chinese medicine practitioners. She , graduated from Xianghai Medical College this year and the future ahead of her was bright and filled with hope.

She was very beautiful. It was the gentle and charming type, possessing a loving temperament that was quite the classical beauty of gorgeous oriental women. Mixed with the crowd, she can be said to be excellent, but also somewhat ordinary. It was because she doesn’t have enough money to buy the latest gorgeous fashion designs. There wasn’t any fragrant perfume on her body and no exquisite makeup and cosmetics on her face. Her whole body was mainly exuding the aura of an untainted, pure oriental beauty.

The hospital was always a place for old people. Most patients were more or less old-fashioned grandfathers and grandmother, and they always held a kind of scrutiny and suspicion for young people.

There weren’t too many things to do except for running mediocre errands or examining doctors’ records. It was boring for her, still she persevered since it was necessary and important to learn from the senior workers.

In an office, sitting diagonally opposite the corner of the room was the director, Song Shangde. He was in his sixties and his hair had long turned gray, There was always a slight smile on his face, which made him look like the friendly grandfather next door.

"Yuxin, take a look at this!" Song Shangde called.

She put down her notes and reluctantly walked over.

"Make a copy of these prescriptions." Song Shangde said with a smile.

Xiao Yuxin raised her eyebrows wanting to complain something, but finally resisted. She picked up the few prescriptions and immediately left. She was not willing to do such trivial chores, she wanted to do chores that would make her feel accomplished. Still, she didn't want to give the director an unruly, defiant impression.

The work was soon quickly done. After handing over the prescription to Song Shangde, the director slightly nodded and placed the papers at the table without saying anything else.

Minutes later, several colleagues emerged into the outside hall with a relax and happy expression. It was time for lunch, Yuxin looked at her watch and got up and left her table. At the moment of pushing the door, she felt eyes were watching behind her. When she turned around, she saw that Song Shangde was smiling at her. She nodded back and slightly bowed.

What does it mean?

Yuxin felt it was a bit strange, but she didn’t care too much. In the age of Song Shangde, he should not have any thoughts about her. In her eyes, Song Shengde was not the type of man with ‘wild’ imaginations.

She doesn't want to eat at the hospital’s cafeteria. Although she wanted to be a doctor, but it doesn't mean she was willing to eat in the cafeteria. Yuxin pondered while in the middle of the crowd. She wasn’t willing to go to McDonald's. Their ground beef was a bit difficult for her to swallow. Where would I go for lunch?

Box meal?

When I was a student, I would have to eat sparsely. Now that I have a job, I can’t be that stingy right?.

Where would I go? Where would I eat?

Outside the hospital, Yuxin looked around, and her eyes finally settled in front of Golden Ocean Heart Hotel…...Although her salary was only 1,600 Yuan ($240) a month, she believed it was alright to treat herself once a while and eat something expensive.

Golden Ocean Heart Hotel was a high end establishment. Naturally, their service was exceptional and exquisite. Walking into the hotel’s restaurant, her body and mind immediately felt relaxed. It was comfortable, it wasn’t crowded and emotional music was softly playing on the background. If she could eat her everyday, then her heart will be filled with constant enjoyment.

Staring coldly at the menu, she immediately killed the idea. Each dish was over a hundred yuan. Eating here every day wouldn’t bring enjoyment, but suicide.

"What do you want?" The waiter kindly smiled and asked, afraid of scaring her.

"A spaghetti and an onion soup." Yuxin reported back with a same smile.

After a while, the food was served and an inexplicable fragrance floated into the air. She silently picked up the utensils and enjoyed the exclusive pleasure. Outside of the hotel, she looked at her watch and discovered she had enough time to go back to the hospital.

Just as she passed though the Yinfan Shopping Building, she heard someone shouting her name, “Xiao Yuxin…..Xiao Yuxin…...wait a minute!"

It was a girl.

She stopped and saw her former classmate Mi Yilin scurrying to catch up from behind. There was a man next to her.

"Hey! Xiao Yuxin!" Mi Yilin grabbed her hand, “I heard from our classmates that you have found a job. Which hospital? ”

Yilin was a rich woman unlike Yuxin’s Family which has now utterly fallen. It was totally unimportant for Yiling to work.

"City Center Hospital." Yuxin said.

"Nice. Oh, how about your man. Is he working with you?" Yilin remembered that Yuxin had a boyfriend while in medical school.

"No, he is in the First People's Hospital." Yu Xin replied. There was some pride in her voice. The First People's Hospital was a key hospital in the city, and it was not a place where one can just have the right to get a job.

"Ah! I forgot to introduce you to Li Jialie!" Yilin remembered the man beside her and rushed to introduce him.

Li Jialie? It seemed that I have seen this name in a magazine.

"Hello!" Yuxin politely greeted.

"Hello, Miss Xiao!" Li Jialie also replied very politely..

He was tall and handsome, very decent and very educated. He was around twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old and acted in a gentlemanly manners.

"Jialie is a businessman," Yilin smiled, “But If you take his suit off, he is more like a sports athlete or a physical education teacher. What do you think? ”

Yu Xin slightly smiled but did not answer.

"We are going to have lunch, what about you?" Yilin asked.

Yuxin looked at the watch. "I would like too, unfortunately I will be late soon."

"Awwww, then we will see each other again soon. Goodbye!!!." Yilin hugged Li Jialie and strode away.

Back at the hospital, several of Yuxin’s colleagues began to enter the director’s office one after another. The director was sitting at the opposite side of his table and handed an envelope to each of them.

As she thought back to Mi Yilin and Li Jialie, they were quite paired. It was normal for Yilin’s richness to match Li Jialie’s excellence.

Of course, there were quite a few outstanding boys around Xiao Yuxin but they can not compare to Zhong Haoyang. He was the best student in their class and thinking about him, a light blush exemplified the lovely smile on Yuxin’s face.

"Yuxin." The director suddenly woke her from her stupor.

Yuxin looked up to Song Shangde’s smiling face as he placed a bank card on her table. "Sign it please.”

Bank card. Oh, today was the payday and this was her first salary!

"Thank you, director." A happy smile plastered Yuxin’s face as she quickly signed the paper.

Examining the bank card, she was like a child that got a new toy to play with.

Song Shangde only smiled. Almost every young man who received a salary for the first time was like this, except that they received an envelope with cash.

With this income, she was excited to treat her family for a little without touching the hard earned money from their small pharmacy.

She had no big plans for her first salary. She just wanted to buy her dad a Philip's electric shaver, raisins which her mom really loves, and as for …...oooooh, a candlelit dinner with him would be nice.

The person Yunxin was referring as ‘him’ was none other than Zhong Haoyang. Both of them came from the same class but Zhong Haoyang specialized in western medicine while Yunxin specialized in Chinese medicine. Their formal relationship began on their second year of college, and although they haven’t broken through the last layer, Yuxin already promised that once they had stable jobs, her body would all be his for marriage.

But...... after they had graduated, Zhong Haoyang began acting strange. When he was able to take a position on the prestigious First People’s Hospital, he began to decline her calls and rarely visited her. Finally, when Yuxin confronted him about this, he merely mumbled incoherently. Yuxin was so enraged, she had never been that furious before.

Maybe... .we should consider an early marriage?

Before heading home, Yuxin dropped by the Yinfan Shopping Building and bought a beautiful electric razor and five-pounds of raisins. Though the price was a little expensive, but it was something that her mom really loves to eat,

Back home, when her mother and father received their gifts, they were naturally very delighted. Yuxin excused herself and ate outside alone before going back to her room to rest.

She shut her eyes and took a sleep.

She slept for a second time.

It was still ten o'clock in the evening.

She reluctantly gave up. She slipped into the kitchen and took a loaf of bread, a bottle of yogurt, and hurriedly ate a few mouthfuls. She was about to open the computer when suddenly, a dazzling lightning flashed outside. Just as she squinted to the radiance, a humanoid object fell past the window and a faint slamming thud followed.

Someone committed suicide by jumping off the building?

Xiao Yuxin hesitated. After seeing that there were no other movements, she put on a dress, took a flashlight, and gently came to the hall.

Her parents’ room was still lit, but the lightning didn’t seem to alert them. Xiao Yuxin opened the door and went out. Fortunately, the corridor lights were still on, and she quickly went down the stairs.

“Someone did commit suicide!”

She turned on the flashlight and aimed at the spot where a figure landed. Xiao Yuxin was confused. A man just fell from such a great height yet didn’t alert the other residents, not a single one?

By the light of the flashlight, she saw a curled figure. Through the apparel and physique of the figure, she immediately recognized that the body was of a woman.

"Hey, are you still alive?

Xiao Yuxin held the flashlight in one hand, and her other hand reached out to the woman’s nose, trying to feel a breath. Suddenly, a pair of beautiful green eyes opened wide, and a white palm tightly seized Yuxin’s wrists.

"Lighter please. I just want to help you." Xiao Yuxin slightly frowned. This woman had great strength, but fortunately she had practiced martial arts and her physical fitness was above average. Otherwise, her small hands would have exploded to such great strength.

Astonishment mixed with sorrow filled the woman’s eyes. Although she had suffered a fatal injury and her current strength was less than 1% of her former strength, but still it was not something that an ordinary person can withstand. As she glared at the young girl in front of her eyes, she smiled.

"Calm down, I am a doctor. Let me examine you." Xiao Yuxin revealed a more professional smile. This smile was more likely aimed to ease the patient's nervousness.

"Little girl, let me check you first." As the woman suddenly looked up, a beautiful face gleamed through the dazzling moonlight..

"What did you just say?" Xiao Yuxin asked with amazement.

With a slight smile, the woman’s snow white palm once again stretched outwards. Xiao Yuxin can clearly see the trajectory of the woman’s palm, but she can't escape.

"Uuuuuuuh……"

A faint feeling invaded Xiao Yuxin's whole body. Just as her mind was completely blanking out in a coma, a voice from a distant place seemingly drifted through her ears, "Little girl, my name is Artemis."

After knocking out Xiao Yuxin, the woman climbed up from the ground.

"Cough…..."

Golden blood suddenly spurted out from her mouth and flowed into her chest.

"It seems that I can't go on any longer!" Frowning slightly, she sat down on her knees and put her hands on her stomach. Suddenly, her body shivered fiercely. Gradually, In her eyebrows, a black diamond-shaped crystal burst outwards as her face immediately became pale.

She hesitated for a moment before scratching Yuxin’s forehead with her fingers. A trace of blood slowly flowed from the scratch. Then she pressed the black crystal to the wound. Just when the black crystal touched the wound……no..... just when it came contact with Yuxin’s blood, it immediately turned into a black smoke which drilled into Xiao Yuxin’s through the wind.

Strange black patterns immediately surfaced along Yuxin’s skin which extended all throughout her body. To a person with a vast knowledge of human anatomy, these lines were completely consistent with the distribution of blood vessels in the human body.

"Aaaaaaah…..." Xiao Yuxin screamed in pain. Her eyelids squirmed and seemed on the verge of waking up. However, the woman placed her palm once again onto Yuxin’s forehead and Xiao Yuxin relapsed into unconsciousness one more time as the black crystal gradually incorporated into her body.

The black lines on her skin finally faded, and the scratch on Xiao Yuxin’s eyebrows disappeared without a trace. Although her appearance haven't changed, but it added a kind of breathtaking elegance to her beauty.

"Sure enough, my chosen inheritor. 100% Integration…...cough......" She laughed with satisfaction, but suddenly spurted out from her mouth.

"I can't go on any longer!"

Turning her hand, a small hexagonal silver badge appeared in her palm. Then she made a wound in Xiao Yuxin’s left palm and just when the blood flowed out, she placed the badge onto her wound. The air slightly trembled as the badge was sucked inside Xiao Yuxin’s hand like a vacuum, and the wound quickly healed.

"My chosen inheritor, this is what I can do for you……..As long as you can survive, you will understand the rest." There was a slight trace of disappointment on her face. Moments later, the woman’s body began to shimmer on the moonlight and finally faded into the starry night sky.
